What strikes me is how well dressed and clean they look. I remember my dad, who was a child in the 1920s in the UK, told me that they were poor but his mum, my gran, always kept them clean and although their clothes were old, they were well mended. This, he said, was not like other children in the school who were not kept so well. This film footage, as lovely as it is, and with the gorgeous backdrop of Beethoven, looks more like a movie to me, although I can feel nostalgia and sense the beauty of it. Thanks, Jon, for sharing.

People commenting about costumes: indeed. I'm a former sailor(yeah it's been a long journey here lol) and those clothes that some of the kids playing with the boats is navy dress uniform to this day... That square neck flap in the back and the teacup hat.

Jon, I was very drawn to the water fountain in this video at the 3 minute 18 seconds frame, it really stands out for several reasons. (1) The amount of water being pumped thru it would require a massive pump (powered by electricity I am assuming) in such as early age where electrical power is very new, so using it this early on for such a fountain of decoration seems out of place to me. (2) The water is being sprayed onto the fountain not just flowing from the fountain (very odd) (3) The fountains resemblance to a lingham (which in ancient india are said to produce power, so maybe the water is being sprayed onto said fountain, because it is not a fountain, but a power generating device of some kind and the water spraying onto it is for cooling the unit) (4) It's relative close proximity to the obelisk. Just some Observations that really stood out to me, I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

One camera and some people in awe yet it seems pure luck to happen to be there in the centre of the street and film 4 horse drawn fire brigade heading to a fire. The old post cards that have the almost empty streets and these movie clips come across like advertisements to me, ‘come to this new town, we even have a fire brigade’

Crazy Synchronicity I was watching this Paris video earlier and did a deep dive into the mechanics of the Moving Sidewalk - called by some the Ouroboros! I could not find much detail about the mechanism but I Marvel at its construction and wish we had them in modern cities! 😊

All the people walking reminds me of the TV show ER. There was always a bunch of extras walking in the background constantly. It looks staged. All these people walking but really without a destination, just like extras. "....and queue the horse and buggy".

Crazy impressive how civilized and well-to-do these people appear here. It feels like it's all staged, for sure, and the magnificence of the structures and buildings are quite odd and don't fit the apparent 'times' of the film. Everyone is bustling in a hurry in their costumes - I mean new clothes - against the backdrop of glorious ancient structures. Nice confusing video though!

Wow Jon. This really is a bonus. I would love to know what the "film crew" is barking out at all the people looking into the camera. Especially to the boy being pushed out of the way with an umbrella. The moving sidewalk is remarkable, so ahead of its time. Your choice of music in the background is another bonus as well.
