the frozen lake at the end is called Quake Lake. it is located in southwest Montana close to the Idaho border. it was formed in 1959 when a 7.5 earthquake hit the area and part of a mountain broke free and slid into and across the river valley. there are 28 people buried here in the rubble. the trees are what is left of the forest that was flooded causing the trees to die. this lake is slowly going away due to the erosion of the earth/debris dam and will someday go back to just being a part of the river again.
