You need to be very careful using computer translations. The word “соток” is translated to “Acres” however this is incorrect. The best way to explain this ‘1 сотка” is an area of land measuring 100m2, or 10m x 10m. I don’t know the equivalent word in English for this measurement, however it’s much less than one acre that measures approximately 4000m2.

Bought an old village house (an izba) 16 sotkas(third of an acre in Ivanova region (big river), not far from Plus, had gas central put in, running water. sill got to have sewerage dealt with and have a proper toilet and shower. Hope to have it suitable to live in the winter, More work to do. Better than buying a plot and building from scratch as you have something to enjoy in the summer while renovating

Sam, I think the translation of the plot size in incorrect. These plots don't look anywhere near multi-acre in size as the translated titles suggest. I believe these sizes are originally in "ar" as in 1/100 of a hectar ("сотка"). So 7 соток, or 7/100 ha, is 0.17 acres. This is a typicel small plot size for an individual house in Russia. There are bigger sizes too, but they usually don't go over 0.5 acres for housing (but you can get much more for farming).

Hi Sam-Seen a couple homes with flat roofs-not a good idea in Russia for snow loads-that 1 home for 21 million rubles -190k US was very reasonable=especially if that was on 14 acres-my building costs in the US -is about 100-120 per ft-and retails for approx 300 per ft -home prices in the US are extremely high-very tough for younger family's try to buy

You can buy a traditional (izba) village house for under $10, 000 about 200 KM outside Moscow. Would need some maintenance to update for modern winter living. Check that gas is available.
