step by step how to prep your countertops + kitchen for epoxy! An easy kitchen makeover on a budget and how to renew old countetops and get a DIY marble countertop! This is my second video in my "How to epoxy countertops" series. I have a step by step video showing you how to epoxy your countertops and achieve a white marble look with epoxy and spray paint. This video is going to walk you through every step necessary before starting your primer and epoxy for your countertops. Below is a list of things you will need for prepping as well as stuff you will need to do the epoxy countertops.

HOW TO EPOXY YOUR COUNTERTOPS:

Things you'll need from Home Depot or Lowes:
2-3 large buckets
3 smaller cups or buckets (located near the buckets)
paint stir sticks
3/8 nap paint rollers (we used 6 rollers)
painters tape
plastic sheeting
a paint tray
denatured alcohol
a spray bottle
gloves
a mask
old tshirts that have been washed a bunch cut up into 6-8 pieces OR a towel that has been washed a bunch to eliminate excess lint
sander or sanding block if doing sanding by hand
80 grit sand paper for sanding formica
120 grit for sanding wood
bondo all purpose putty to fill seams or broken counter parts if you have them
220 grit sand paper if you are applying a top coat
a mixing paddle for your drill to mix your epoxy efficiently

Okay, another tip: Remove the bag from your orbital sander and attach the hose of a shopvac to the back with tape. Run the vacuum while you sand, and you'll end up with almost zero dust!

Tip for the beginning of the video on removing the Formica edges: Use an iron to heat up the piece first -- this will melt the glue that's holding it on, and most of the time it peels right off from there (was watching him struggle with the screwdriver).
