Prof. Nussbaum is such a role model for the importance of ambitious, humble, and relevant scholarship for society! Most (social science) scholars, unfortunately, are not like her. A delightful interview - you can feel her passion for intellectual breadth, sharpness, and a willingness to evolve and self-correct! Looking forward to seeing her in Antwerp this September at the HDCA annual conference!

I would love to see Martha in Conversation with Sadhguru! In fact, bring in all the experts to discuss Consciousness! Martha offers many insights. Her interest in India brings an opportunity to explore this further with Sadhguru! A Global Mental Health Pandemic is on the doorstep of humanity and to expand one’s own consciousness is the last step in human evolution. The conversation on consciousness holds a key to the future of our species. Those curious can find Sadhguru’s conversation with the US Surgeon General at Harvard on 09/28/24.

25:25 yes disgust is a tricky one for me. I must use this continually at my work. People have vary different foods they enjoy. Sometimes I think it's gross but must show no emotion on it. Nor make a judging remark.
It's not animal btw, it's sugar.

The strange thing about America is how class status tied itself to academia after the 1950s. The result speaks to the divisions or disconnects in society. For example, host this in a local Chicago park to make it accessible. Bring kevlar vest too.

This is the color of blue, or as the French write, bleu. Fleur bleue, it is.

To say a baby’s cry is undifferentiated flies in the face of parental experience! The experience of feeling loved is a cognitive emotion that is critically important and goes unmentioned.

A platitude is a trite, meaningless, or prosaic statement, often used as a thought-terminating cliché, aimed at quelling social, emotional, or cognitive unease. The statement may be true, but its meaning has been lost due to its excessive use.

And of course, most Indians also do not feel a strong emotion of compassion for Americans, or indeed anyone else. Truly a galaxy brain level of insight here

Re forced retirement. Martha, for many people retirement a rest from pointless, unfuullfiling and sometimes back-breaking manual work.

The real word and the Ivory Tower.

The interviewer is in love with his own voice and pedestrian English, sad, really.
