Absolutely love it, exactly what I was looking for.
I like the idea of downdraft even more than those slanted 'headfree' units, but commercial solutions seem way overpriced. Thanks for showing this super simple setup!

Thanks for posting this. I am trying to "fix" the previous owner of my homes' attempt at a DIY downdraft hood vent. Unlike yours, mine is vented to the outside and is powered by a fan that is mounted to the exterior of the house. Currently there is no filter! So grease ends up trapped in the duct work and ultimately the fan is not nearly as powerful as yours. I am hoping to use what's there and improve it but I may end up having to build a recirculating fan such as yours. Thanks again.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I am really hoping to implement a similar solution. I am considering making the splashback taller than yours, with a bigger ledge, and putting the extraction hole directly in the splashback (frontal view), beneath the ledge. Do you think this could work well? How high do you recommend having the extraction hole? What are the dimensions of your splashback and ledge?

Great idea. Will build it in my new house. But i think i will place the motor al little farer away. Maybe that will reduce the sound. Maybe you can tell us the manufacturer number of the motor. Thanks a lot.

Do you cook a lot?
I wonder where the grease is going. Usually its trapped in the carbon filter. In this case filter looks quite clean.
