How To Launch An Automatic Car The Fastest Way Possible.
Just because your car is an automatic does not mean you cant have fun on the road or at the drag strip. While it’s not as difficult to launch an automatic as it is a manual transmission vehicle, there are some tips that will get you off the line in the quickest amount of time.

The first step is to put your car in sport mode. I’m in an e93 BMW 3 series so to do this you push the shift level over to the left. Many cars are different, some have a button and others have a turn dial. If your car doesn’t have this feature don't worry about it. This will sharpen throttle response and in some cases the suspension for a better takeaway.

Next and most importantly turn on traction control. On most modern cars ignoring exotics having traction control on will limit your ability to launch. In this car you hold the DSC button. Yours maybe different.

When drag racing at the track reaction times play a significant role in the outcome of the race. In general its suggested you takeoff on the third yellow of the christmas tree as waiting for it to turn green will leave you in the dust.

To have as quick of a launch as possible place your left foot firmly on the break and your right foot resting on the gas. Most automatics will limit your revs to about 1500. Give the car gas to about 1500 to 2000 rpm and when the third yellow hits release the break and floor it.

In a car with less than 300hp youll likely be able to floor it all the way with no issues. Obviously if you have an automatic 500hp car thats rwd youll have to feed the throttle in more slowly.

There you have it I hope you found this helpful.

Between his voice, his car, and that shirt...those are the EXACT kind of shoes I would think he was wearing.

For those saying that your car is just doing a burn out when trying this, it's bc you're applying too much throttle. Give a little less gas and hold the gas pedal at that perfect amount to where your rpms are up, but you're not getting wheel spin... also ensure that you're really digging your foot into that brake... then very quickly release your foot from the brake and mash that gas pedal all the way down... BUT, if your engine has over 250hp, you'll probably get a fair amount of wheel spin on the take off...

P.S. I typed those instructions very clearly, if you don't understand any aspect of what I said, you probably shouldn't be trying this lol

You forgot another important step for maximum power... turn of heating & aircon, it makes a difference in available power and in some models actually quit a bit.

I drive a 350z if you take the traction control off you either have a death wish or want to do a quarter mile burnout

To everyone that claims you shouldn't launch an automatic transmission. Keep in mind that these are features specifically programmed in by the manufacturer of the vehicle. If your car wasn't meant to do it.... Then they would not program the feature in. I have used launch control on my Golf R for many years now. No problems

The same person that taught me how to get my license is teaching me how to launch a car 😂

With an auto, the reason the rpms don't get very high with the break on is because of the stall of the torque converter. Stalling a torque converter isn't bad for it, and is where you get the most torque multiplication. But keep in mind that it does heat up the ATF quite quickly, so don't do this for a long period of time.

The way I launch my e90.
Steps:
-turn off traction control
-put in M1
-slam brake
-hit gas as much as possible without wheels spinning (for me that's 2-3k)
-let off brake and slam gas at the same time.

You're welcome!

I can confirm that yes, the Gucci slippers do indeed give you about 90+ horsepower when used in a race 🏁

as a technician i would advise not to hold down the brake and give it gas at the same time as this may cause damage to your torque converter
