Beyond The Veil (Villain Song)

"Beyond the Veil" presents a narrative that dissects the complexity of morality through the perspective of a character often seen as the villain. It explores the idea that morality and identity aren’t absolutes but rather constructs shaped by the powerful, those who ultimately decide how stories are remembered. The character in this piece challenges the hero—and the audience—to look deeper than society’s binary concepts of good and evil, revealing that those who win and hold authority often set the terms of morality and identity.

At its core, this piece asks the listener to confront uncomfortable truths: how much of what we accept as "right" or "wrong" has been influenced by who controls the narrative? It suggests that identity and worth aren’t defined by these shifting ideals but by a deeper understanding of self, independent of labels like "hero" or "villain." The setting and atmosphere are tense and introspective, drawing on grand, almost mythological imagery to evoke a timeless struggle between competing truths, ultimately reminding us that concepts like justice and virtue are only as concrete as those who have the power to enforce them.

Ive always loved the type of character who walks in the shadows for the sake of the light. I completely subscribe to the notion that in the battle for good and evil you must be grey to truly do the right thing.

This song hit me like a truck.. my dnd character is going through something exactly like this rn. But the one singing is an embodiment of her fears and sadness, along with all the darkness shes hidden away. who resembles her younger self, stemming from years of trauma.

As somoene once said :
“Pirates are evil? The Marines are righteous?
These terms have always changed throughout the course of history!
Kids who have never seen peace and kids who have never seen war have different values!
Those who stand at the top determine what's wrong and what's right!
This very place is neutral ground! Justice will prevail, you say?
But of course it will! Whoever wins this war becomes justice!”

Like comparison of dark and light but feel like it missing something. If I write song it would be a anti hero song and here few lines I have come up with. You look out window, to see a hero shadow, for I’m the dark in light, and in dark I glow bright, for I not hero you seek, I do not protect the weak, I only help those whom I find relief, not those with false beliefs, I only wish to have my fill, I have no need to kill, for I am hero shadow, who goals aren’t shallow.

This song make me feel it a story of a young but naïve hero tricked by deceiving king to kill a undead priest than the king betrayed and cover the true with lies do the undead priest sing to the hero to see pass the lies and see the true but than just what I feel from this song

Oooooh. I actually have a character this is perfect for. He started off as a kid who’s powers where emerging and an evil organization was going to kidnap him to turn him into another pawn in their army, but his parents sacrificed themselves so he could escape. He lived on the streets for years using his powers to perform as a magician and eventually met two heroes that were working to take down that same organization that killed his parents and offered him a chance to join. He was apart of that hero team for many years grew up along with the other side kicks and when the older heroes retired he was one of the leaders for the second generation.
But the good times didn’t last. The organization they thought they had took down years ago had wormed itself into the government and on a fateful day they were fighting another enemy they saw the military arriving and thought they were getting back up. It ended with his three of oldest friends dead and two more maimed for life. It was just him and one other that was still in condition to fight. And so he did. Calling the older heroes out of retirement and some of the more neutral rogue that owed him favors. They wiped out the enemy breaking many rules that had been set for them or by them selves.
When it was finished the hero group fully disbanded and most retired. As time went on he saw that all the work they had done. All the corruption they cleaned out was quickly replaced. As though it never mattered. It was an insult to the memory of his slain friends he could not stand. But humanity was at a point that the only way to fix it would be to wipe the slate clean and start over. But he needed resources for that. So he formed his own criminal empire. Gathering what he needed to build an ark for the future and the weapons to destroy the filth that humanity had become. He wasn’t fooling himself he would die with the rest so he wouldn’t taint the future generations. Then maybe that peaceful world his friends had died believing in would finally become reality.
Only it seems a his old mentor has trained a new generation of kids to play the hero to stop him. Hm he isn’t sure if he should be insulted or amused.

Justive is relative. Morality is relative. Stories are relative. Good and evil are relative.
But the truth? There's only 1 truth, no matter how you look at it. Change it and it becomes a lie.
