I've started my journey as a kid, but then I took decades worth of a writing break. Now I'm back and have been writing for the past 2.5 years again actively, every day, and I still have so much to learn to hone this craft before I even dare putting anything online, I feel.
It's such a fine line between putting your ideas, your story down, and actually making it appealing.

I'm not singling this out because I happen to think this way at all, but I just want to say that there is a lot of actual "bad writing" out there that gets published. Some of these "may not be for you" moments might exist, but that is something a lot of "bad writers" say. I know that I'm no genius myself, but if I can avoid being known for "bad writing, " I'll be happy. For now, I'm just going to keep working hard on making my writing not suck.

I’m writing a story with who knows what kind of weird monsters. These monsters are based around my sorrows. Really, take a fear or sorrow you have, and personify it as a monster that your characters have to overcome.

Yeah but 90% of the people saying that mean non-fiction books where they share advice. I bet fictional books are a much smaller number

I just write because i like to. I don't really care whether i get published or not. Don't get me wrong, it would be awesome if i did, but I'm doing it for my own enjoyment and nothing else.

Nowadays it’s very easy to write ✍️ and publish a book for very little money 💰 and that has really increased the number of books published but most of the books are written by authors who don’t really know the literary tradition and so they will just do whatever they want in the book 📖 and the book doesn’t sell well because writing literature is a very specific art form, shaped by generations of authors

Are there any tell signs if your book fits within the literary or other categories?

Do you have sources for these nonsensical ideas that don't surprise me at all? Personally, I'm trying to write the the Great American Anti-American Novel, because that's actually what Great American novel candidates have almost always been, and I have multiple outline candidates for that and character tropes I want to explore and eviscerate. I'm more interested in being vilified by the mainstream and conservative scum, and I know that's an easier way to generate sales.
