SPY VS SPY
The socially conscience band that has been around since the early eighties.

Started in Nelson Bay but really found their way once they moved to Sydney, living in the squats at Glebe.

Fast forward 30 years, Michael Weiley has itchy fingers & wants to get back to what he does best, play guitar live. He talks about seeing Cliff the original drummer while catching a train from Central Station & longs to re unite the magic they shared in the early days. The message is sent out & Cliff replies a couple of years later & soon Cliff is back on the skins, providing the missing heartbeat to the band.

Their last show together on stage was to a sold-out show & Michael’s last wishes for the band was for them to continue playing Spy v Spy music live. The Spy’s live show is like being hit by a truck, the songs Injustice, Hard Times, Soldiers, A.O, Credit Cards, One Of A Kind, Don’t Tear It Down, come at you hard & fast, music with a message, an experience in musical nirvana.

The new line up is:

Cliff Grigg, original drummer
Dean Reynolds, lead vox
Andrew Davis, lead guitar
Cam Hallmen, bass

To all the haters out there. This is the band that Mike picked to carry on the legacy of such an amazing Aussie band. Before you start bagging out these guys maybe you should find out facts. I, like you wish that none of our favorite musicians would pass away or move on, but it happens, and we need to appreciate that these guys are carrying the legacy of what once was. No one will ever be or replace your favorite musician, everybody is different and we need to respect that. We need guys like this so live music can live on.

My God is that Cliff on the drums. The guitar is doing a pretty good job but Mike was the OG sound of the Spies. Very difficult to emulate Mike's style of playing.

As a 14 year old boy, my first ever concert was Midnight Oil at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney in 1984. As excited as I was to see Midnight Oil play live, I was as much or even more interested in seeing the support act, a 3-piece indie band getting around that I’d been hearing and reading about in the OTS paper called “Spy Vs. Spy”. These guys were everything and more than I’d read about and absolutely tore the place apart. From that day on, Craig and the boys had a huge impact and inspiration on my musical endeavors, and still do to this day. Great to see the current band keeping the dream alive, and doing a great job. I saw them play at the Brass Monkey in Cronulla a little while ago, and they sounded great. Aussie Indie pub rock is the epitome of music, in my humble opinion .

Wow so great to find this on YouTube and hear that the band has found a new life with Cliff and new members.. Today's music just doesn't have the raw passion and power like this and bands like the Oils. The new guys did an amazing job, they were really getting into it. The driving guitar is so incredible and just like Mike. Can't wait to see them live and hear the new album.

Brilliant, thanks for sharing and what a beautiful backdrop- from an Aussie who is stuck in the UK and wants to make their way to back to my spiritual land. Music is a barometer of what is going on in our 3D world. These guys are genuine and honest and they really resonate with me. The real messages about the way we live have always been in plain sight. This is the way I see Australian bands like this from the 80's. There are a massive wave of humans that have lifted the veil from the lies and conditioning we have been fed, and evolution is happening. So things are changing- you just have to be able to see it!

It's my first time I've seen the original drummer playing. This band was very famous and popular, especially by the surfers from Rio de Janeiro. There was a radio station that was used to play "Clarity of Mind" repeatedly. The guitar strap has Brazilian flag lol.

gotta say even though I just discovered this I got the feels for Spy v Spy. My first experience of them was in Darwin in the 80's and these fellas still rock. <3

I will admit I have never heard or seen the original band. But I have seen these guys a few times now and I think they are great. I not only love the music but the way in which they perform it. To the original band members thank you for picking such a talented group of musicians to carry on your legacy.
