Personally I'm more of a fan that they're his friends. Plus the way she looked at him after she threw Kumataro seemed like she was beginning to turn her interest to him but he cared more about helping us friend that being with her at that point.

the bears are definitely meant to be bros. The main guy met this girl and fell in love with her, and he followed her to the bear store. This bear store probably symbolizes her social circle, from which she picks boyfriends at random, much like how you get a random bear chain by chance with a token.

Wanting to get closer to her, the boy approaches her social circle as well, and those (bears)guys try to help him get closer to her. The boy becomes particularly good friends with a certain orange bear, who is the girl's senior at school probably.

The senpai bear was initially supposed to help the main guy score, but the girl ended up asking the senpai to date her, and bear senpai pulled a "top 10 anime betrayals" and walked off with the prize.

...or so it seemed. I think senpai bear realized much sooner than the main guy that the girl wasn't as angelic as she seemed. The wear and scratches on the bear when she was holding the keychain showed that the bear must have been putting up with some kind of trauma for a while.

The main guy in the meanwhile decides he at the very least wants to confess, and while most of the bear bros held him back with metaphorical yellow tape (1 guess the "don't mess with your bro's relationship, move on), some "superhero" bears (probably symbolizing white knights who maybe thought the senpai bear shouldn't have agreed to date when the main guy had his eyes on the girl first) supported him.

He reaches the river, and sees the girl quite literally tossing the senpai bear away. Seeing that made the main guy realise that this whole time, he'd seen the pile of "bears" or the guys she'd dumped and thrown away just as much as she'd seen new guys in her social circle, but he'd refused to acknowledge it.
Having finally known and accepted the girl's secret, the main guy realized his concept of love had only warped his view, and that it hadn't been worth it from the start. He goes to rescue the bear senpai, who may have "betrayed" him to get some booty, but who had still been a true friend.

**This is a copy pasted comment from the original music video since I couldn't explain everything myself. This seems closest to the story thats in the song in my opinion and it makes a lotta sense of you think about it**

i think the theory with the bears being people sounds pretty plausible because of the quote: Maybe it's hopeless, but I've got friends on my side. Also throwing toys into the river is kinda weird. Kumataro being a friend who was exploited looks a lot more reasonable.

The most common interpretation I've seen is where the bears are representative of boys and specifically Kumataro is representative of Yoh's best friend. The different bears on the girl's keychain are all boys that she's leading on, and the little sentient bears surrounding Yoh are his friends (as they are not tied to his bag or anything) This interpretation follows the idea that Yoh and his friend both like the girl but she ends up going out with the friend. She then reveals to Yoh that she likes HIM and just dated the friend to get closer to him. He ultimately rejects her because he doesn't want to betray his best friend. The scene of the girl throwing the old Kumataro into the lake is representative of her dumping him, and Yoh going in to get it back represents him comforting his friend afterwords.
There's also an extended version of this interpretation in which Yoh and his friend end up getting together, which kind of makes sense considering the video. The girl goes into the bear store and looks around (this represents her being straight and openly having interest in boys) Yoh enters the store kind of nervously, checking that the coast is clear and looking around in sort of a faster pace, but definitely still having interest in the bears. These clips of him in the bear store are played multiple times towards the end of the video, specifically when he was retrieving Kumataro from the lake. Following the idea that the girl having the bear charm on her bag implies she was in a relationship with him, then if Yoh has the old Kumataro on his phone, perhaps it means the same for him?
This is just made up of things I've heard and seen from other people but its interesting to think about

Just gonna say that this is my favorite song, so I've been waiting for someone to do an analysis video on it for a long time. Thanks for this!
My theory is that this song is about how the pink haired MC is failing to confess his love to the blue haired girl. When he's crossing the street, he's crossing a line that he can't go back on, so his mind goes to a red light, and doesn't allow him to go forward with confessing his love.
"Let the bubbles fade away." As in, reflecting on his decision of playing it safe.
Of course, Pink waits to long to confess, and the orange bear gets together with Blue. This causes Pink to sort of beat himself up, "There are plenty of other people in the world." But he puts his situation into one sentence, "Game over." In which this ignites him to go forth and not give up on Blue. Of course, he sees that Blue, without caring about orange bear, throws him away, as if he means nothing to her. Seeing this, Pink has to choose which is more important to him, the girl he has been chasing all this time, or his friends who have helped him along the way. And he chooses his friend.
Sorry for something so long, but I could probably make a whole video of my own with all my theories!

based on the lyrics I always thought it was about a love triangle, and how the boy liked the girl, and how essentially the boy's best friend (represented by the bear) was in a relationship with the girl. The songs talks about the boy promising his best friend not to tell the girl his friends has feelings for her, then the friend goes ahead telling her his feelings, and the boy is left desiring a relationship he will never have because he feels loyal to his friend and wanted to not admit he had feelings too. But after a while the boy realises the girl is unfaithful towards his friend and she throws him away like a toy she's used in favour of someone new and shiny, and the boy is conflicted as to if he should pursue a relationship with her, or support his friend. But in the end he decides to save his friend from the river (representing sadness and rejection), and not to also discard him like an item.

Rather than friends or just toys, I think the bears are his effort to be noticed by the girl.

The old Kumataro he sees at the beginning is her old boyfriend, and now that it's old and battered, she's trying to find a new one.

The bears he collects in his search for a new Kumataro are the effort he puts in to become special to her, and they push him forward because "you've already done this much, are you going to give up now?".

When he finally gets Kumataro and she notices him, he realizes she doesn't see _him_ at all, just what made him special/rare. Some of the bears try to make him give up because "is this really what you wanted? All this effort, and she's still far away, and doesn't notice _you_ at all", and others urge him on because "you finally caught her attention, just a bit more and you'll reach her".

While he's still pondering this, he sees that his Kumataro is just as old and battered as the previous one, and she throws him, and all his effort, away.

But now, instead of chasing her, and a new Kumataro(special thing to keep her interested), he chases his Kumataro that he got after a lot of effort. I think he learns to love himself, and that his effort was never a waste because it made him better and will always be special to him.

I'm lowkey surprised and caught me off-guard to see people interpreted this as a girl was a manipulator or a bad person or something.
Personally, I feel like the song was mostly linked to the video in a way that the boy was too scared/shy to reach out for the girl until it was too late for him, and at the end, decided to catch the bear for the girl to confess to her (instead of catching the bear to save the bear, which most of the theories are). There are some ways to interpret if that small brown bear was given by the boy, or something that the girl already had before, but its clear for me that the bears were something that the girl liked and the boy saw that too (or maybe he liked them too, a common interest). The bears were a way for him to realize that its game over if he keeps on driving himself away from her, and the bear is what he saw from her.

But the gist of this for me was the boy liked the girl but was too scared to reach out to her fully, and the bears/imaginary friends/girl's secret paved the way for him to reach out to her and caught the bear when she threw it away (in this scene, I saw it as the girl didn't see anything substantial with the bear anymore, until the boy catched it and its the start of a love story from there.) I think the bear was the girl's secret, and as a said before, I feel like the song is actually telling the story of the video.

My theory is that It's just all about having the courage to talk with to your crush before it's too late. If the boy was the one who gave the girl the bear, it's just normal for the girl to throw away whatever she had before if the boy just stayed in his room not doing anything bout his feelings after giving the bear. If the bear was already hers, it was a gateway for him to connect with her through her liking the bear again because of him. The bear was all supportive of the boy and showed him what can happen if the boy just let the girl be.

I like the friend theory more then the toy one, but with the whole zingai thing eve has going on I think both are pretty plausible

It can't be that the bears are thoughts because well... one of those bears actually does drown and you can tell because of the wet clothes.. Somehow someway orange bear guy was drowning and MC saved him.

I feel like I'm so normie I relate to this song the most out of every eve song but that's ok
Also there's a theory that the girl throws out kumatoru for the reason that the boy gave him to her without her having any effort in getting him so she doesn't feel like she earned it therefore he's worthless to her

I think the bear pathway might also represents all the bears he accumulated in the process of getting kumataro and them serving as stepping stones to reach his goal.
