What is Unconformity: How Unconformity forms

An unconformity is a non-depositional surface between two rock units. that separates two different-age rock masses or strata.

They are represent a break in the geologic record (between two rock bodies) of hundreds of millions of years or more. (sometimes for unconformity says- that “time” is missing).

Unconformity indicating that the deposition of sediments was not continuous. It represent times when deposition stopped, some of the previously deposited rock was removed by an erosion and finally the deposition resumed.

Formation of Unconformity-

Unconformities are gaps in the geologic record that may form by-
Erosion- Unconformty forms when erosion process erode away one time unit of rock and then again deposition is resume.
Crustal deformation- Unconformity also Forms due to the Crustal deformation like Folding and faulting. After folding or faulting the strata is undergone intense erosion process and particular rock unit is erode away.
Sea level variations- Sea-level changes may result from regional uplifts or global sea-level changes. when the sea level falls, sediments erode from exposed soils. When the sea level rises, sediments are typically deposited in shallow continental shelves or coastal plains.

Types of Unconformity-
Disconformity-A disconformity is an unconformity between parallel layers of sedimentary rocks. Disconformities are characterized by sub aerial erosion features.

Local Unconformity-
Local unconformity is a similar to disconformities, but as the name implies, it is distinctly local in extent: the time involved is short.

Nonconformity-
A nonconformity exists between sedimentary rocks and metamorphic or igneous rocks when the sedimentary rock lies above and was deposited on the pre-existing and eroded metamorphic or igneous rock.

Angular unconformity
An angular unconformity is an unconformity in which horizontally parallel strata of sedimentary rock are deposited on tilted and eroded layers.
Further orogenic activity can deform and tilt the entire sequence later.

Angular unconformity will only be understood when TP Plate Tectonics, the paradigm of Geosciences for 60 years, is replaced by another that has already been found. Fernandes-Moça, J.M. - Jan2024

Why stopped deposition
under the sea?
I know this question. Please explain.
