Overdue Pregnancy is what we call it as post dated pregnancy. Generally nowadays all are educated and the obstetricians knows the dates and it is not good to cross the dates across the dates the circulation is reduced and the water also gets reduced. So this starts struggling inside the uterus. So it is not good for the baby to cross the due date. Normally pregnancy is 40 week pregnancy. Whatever crosses 40 weeks is Overdue Pregnancy or Post Dated Pregnancy. So what happens in Post Dated Pregnancy is the fluid collection around the fetus, that time it cannot swim and the second thing is the placenta of the baby that produces nutrition form the mother, the placenta starts reducing its vascularity and it has impact on the baby and cannot breathe freely after 50 weeks and should not allow to cross the pregnancy past 40 weeks. It is not good to deliver the baby after 40 weeks what we see is if the baby has crossed the date the baby can die and it is not good for the mother because she has harbored the baby for 9 months and it is no good to go beyond date so that she can take appropriate action. Because you have crossed the date you have to try for normal delivery also. In most of the times when the Overdue Pregnancy happens we take ultrasound of the child and check for the brain of the child and other organs of the child and then we try to decide what is most appropriate and how to handle this. So it is not good to pass the date of delivery.
