Pedro I was a key figure in the independence of the Brazil, and would rule the country as its first constitutional Emperor from 1822-1831.

Pedro I body is interred in São Paulo, Brazil, at the site where he proclaimed Brazilian independence. It is not in Portugal. His heart is still in Porto.

Well done video, but there isn't mention to Empress Leopoldina, archduchess of Austria, and our first Empress. She as regent played a very important role in our independence. Her passions included natural sciences, especially botany and mineralogy. Our greatest Emperor D Pedro II was her son.

The Brazilian Empire distinguished itself from the other “ empires” of the Americas for its legitimacy. It was a Constitutional Monarchy and not a “ dream” of someone that had decided to become an emperor/ dictator, or an emperor born and raised in other lands, speaking a different language and coming from a different culture, imposed upon by others.
