Is it so bad? (Yume Nikki Fansong)

A Yume Nikki Fansong! After Omori I went down the rabbit hole of it's inspirations... and Yume Nikki really caught my eye and inspired me a lot.
So I wrote a song about it! lol
And yes I know I said it might've taken a couple days to finish but yknow what a redbull and determination do wonders for the soul.

i love how this song doesn't try to lean towards one theory or another, it just has lyrics referencing the fan theories and that's it. for games like this where nobody really knows the true story, this is great. ^^

I haven't played Yume Nikki (much) but what I do know is that Madotsuki's story was ultimately left pretty ambiguous. We only had her dreams to work with, after all, that and her leap of faith. There weren't any other characters that interacted with her in the real world. A big part of the game's fandom revolved around theorising why Madotsuki's dreams were like this, scrutinizing every bit of strange imagery to see just what was wrong with this girl.

Maybe some of those theories would've boiled down to -
"EPILEPSY. CRAZY PSYCHO. Stuck up girl who cannot let go."

But if we look at it from Madotsuki's perspective, though...
"They're all watching. Watching closely. Watching close to see you crumble."

As someone who never played yume nikki (I always found it interesting but other games always came first) this song makes me want to go play it now!

But seriously, after you did omori stuff I kept thinking to myself "man, they should do a yume nikki song! but nah, that's too indie of a game for them..." and yet here we are

I love how calming and slow this song is, and how distant you sound from the mic and then get closer near the end, like madotsuki is dreaming but then wakes up to do...yeah.The shift around 1:25--i can't really describe it, but it sounds like the pitch of the song drops? It reminds me of when I played Yume Nikki--It was very light and fluffy on the surface, but sometimes, I'd fall down and stumble on something dark--like how the song shifts, it's as if madotsuki is getting closer to the end; especially with that "until it takes a turn" line. Then there's another shift at 2:00 where the song becomes frantic--Madotsuki is running from something, probably whatever she buried so deep in her mind. It becomes so devastatingly dark at the end too, reflecting that rabbit hole that Yume Nikki is so good at drawing you into--and then you find something disturbing at the bottom.

I love how you delve into her psyche as well. Madotsuki has to be one of the loneliest people on earth--both not and totally by choice; after all, "Is this so bad?" to keep dreaming? one has to wonder just what happened to make her like this; but it's not like she cares, she'll keep dreaming until she "grows colder" AKA: Dies. She's cemented herself in this cycle.

In short, the song is a twisted reflection of lucid dreaming--floating on lighter thoughts until you trip and fall down into something truly disturbing--so it's a perfect reflection of Yume Nikki as a whole.

I have been a fan of yume nikki for over 8 years now. This song perfectly articulates how i feel about the game- Its a reflection. A window. And this song describes what i see in said window. Mental illness - fear of judgement, and an intense everlasting desire to escape in some way. in any way.

...well, i've gotta say, but your music is pretty different from everything I have heard by now. By it's style, by it's lyrics, by it's general atmosphere. And that's not for a bad. I feel like I'm not gonna resist to take a look at that game, nor to pass by your others songs without a listen. Just realized i missed this song, and i am glad i came back to watch this. Between your older ones it surely is one of the best.
Fits well with the game, it songs really good, and does not feel much like a fansong. Another very good work.
