they are probably related but that term isnt reserved for actual blood relations, its a term of endearment that can be used for someone who is simply older than you but "like a brother" to you. same goes for the term for older sister.

I saw on a Mr.Tommo video that Mashiro Kuna the Vizard is related to the "Kuna" from 12th Division R&D. The Little Girl with the glasses and purple hair with chains for pigtails with bits of purple hair on the ends of them. I was not aware of that after a these years!

i just assumed it was like kenpachi who took the name of the place he was from as his last name. like if madarame is the district that ikkaku is from. and shino is from there too. kinda assumed everyone from the poorer districts like including renji used that convention. 😭
