India’s defence exports recorded nearly a six-fold increase between 2017 and 2021, shooting up from ₹1,520 crore to ₹8,435 crore during that period, according to defence ministry data.

In 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the webinar on the effective implementation of Budget provisions in the defence sector. PM Modi said that India is among the largest defence importers in the world and said that his government is committed to changing this. ‘We’ve centuries-old experience when it comes to making arms & ammunition. He also invited the private sector to join India’s efforts to become Atmanirbhar in the defence sector.

23 Years After Kargil War, India’s Defence Reforms See An Upsurge Under PM Modi.Recently, L&T, in partnership with Korea’s Samsung, had procured a Rs 5,400-crore order to manufacture 100 artillery guns. The DRDO has tied up with Bharat Forge and General Dynamics to manufacture FICVs. Many More Industries like Reliance Industries , Tata Motors, TVS Logistics, and Mahindra Defence Systems are joining hands with Public Sector Unit DRDO, HAL.
