I don’t understand why they have a press conference with openness to questions when they obviously can’t answer any of them because you don’t want to jeopardize the trial and securing a sentence

If "I" was a family member of one of the victims, the last thing "I" would want to hear is we captured him. You can rest easy because he will live out the rest of his life behind bars. What "I" would want to hear is we found the shooter and was killed resisting being taken into custody. It doesn't change the fact that innocent people are gone but, it would be more of a closure knowing the people are not being made to support him and keep him alive until he dies of old age.

So in other words the federal FBI, US Marshals, and military assets found him and sent in the police to be the foot soldiers that apprehended him under supervision.
