Heritage Foundation - A History of Pandering to the Rich

The Heritage Foundation is wrong about tax increases sinking the nation into ruin. And they've been wrong for 20 years, which is pretty awful for a supposed think tank. Well, what could be causing this? Perhaps the wealthy donors pumping money in to them so their own interests can be preserved? Cenk Uygur breaks down the Heritage Foundation's warnings about raising taxes against what actually ended up happening.

You've really shaken me up with the depth and brilliance of your comment. I'm reanalyzing ALL of my previously held preconceptions.

I used to watch Alex jones in highschool (using winamp if anyone is curious, good old days), I was an evangelical Christian. I joined the army, realized 90% of what he says about the military isn't true (interviewing low ranking soldiers assuming they are the masterminds of some conspiracy lol), 7 years later, I'm an atheist. So yeah, anyway, See you soon on the atheist forums Darren, We need more educated folk like you, to fight, people like you. =D

I'm Swedish, and I can tell you that whenever anyone here even mentions religion, everything tends to get a little awkward because it's considered pretty silly to believe in that stuff in this day and age. The reason most people are still technically members of the church is that everyone is automatically a member from birth, and you have to manually leave it, which most people either don't know about or haven't bothered to do.

At a recent Speech and Debate Tournament (this was high school) my opponents tried to pass the heritage foundation as a reputable source.

USSR was definately atheist and therefore not secular. But NK is definately not atheist as they believe that their leaders live on after death and have supernatural powers. In effect they believe their leaders to be gods.

I am still not convinced that Hitler was as influenced by pagan mythology as much as other third reich leaders, as his writings tended to focus on a single creator. But he definately latched on to any belief that confirmed the superiority of the Aryan race.

That is such a cop-out, and also completely wrong.

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill(Sic) them." - Matthew 5:17

"We in the United States, above all, must remember that lesson, for we were founded as a nation of openness to people of all beliefs. And so we must remain. Our very unity has been strengthened by our pluralism. We establish no religion in this country, we command no worship, we mandate no belief, nor will we ever. Church and state are, and must remain, separate." ronald reagan, oct 26 1984...

Cenk, we have to remember this also depends on the current economy we are in. Raising taxes doesn't always work when we keep spending and spending and go deeper and deeper into debt with China and other countries. I agree that if anyone should be paying more taxes, it should be the rich. But how the hell do we intend to use those taxes? They are being WASTED.

The branch I've studied the most is Austrian economics, but I have a degree in economics so I am quite familiar with Keynesian, neo-liberal, and other ideas as well to some degree.

I would point you towards a critique of MMT by Robert Murphy, "The Upside-Down World of MMT" if you care to see problems associated with MMT in the view of an Austrian economist.
Ironically Paul Krugman is also a critic of MMT, he wrote a column "Deficits and The Printing Press" that critiques it as well.

I'm glad I could help you see the light.

I do agree with you on the fact that raising the taxes on the rich by 4% is a good thing and they should do it. In reality though based on current spending (according to economists), you're looking at the Feds being able to run the government for 8-16 days with that money alone. Half a month out of 365 days does not cut it. Tax increase on the rich + reduction of spending = the best possible outcome.

Paul was just a man, with no knowledge of the divine beyond what he was taught.

What he considers a sin should be ignored when it goes against the teachings of Jesus. Jesus spoke of love and fellowship, not hate and bigotry.

Thats why I said more or less, my point was a "religion" is an organization not really a belief. Atheism is also a belief not an organization.

Stalin's rule was not the result of Atheism. Getting really tired of people making that connection. Including the infamous "Hitler was an Atheist". Except the part where he wasn't.

Religion has caused far more harm and death throughout history than secular governments.
