Biden slams Trump's description of Capitol rioters as 'peaceful' crowd

President Joe Biden has labelled former President Donald Trump’s remarks about the Capitol insurrection “bizarre”.

Mr Biden said this during a campaign rally for Terry McAuliffe, who is seeking the governorship in Virginia again after leaving office in 2018.

Mr Biden told the crowd, “We just have to keep making the case just as the Republican Party today offers nothing but fear, lies and broken promises."

“When you think about, turning on the television every day and seeing the replay of what happened on January 6 and saying it was a lot of wonderful peaceful people. ... It is bizarre.”

There were literal months of riots that were described by the media and half of US politicians as "mostly peaceful protests", they did it so much it became a meme. Jan 6th was terrible, as were the other riots that happened across the US but why was the Jan 6th riot so much worse than the rest?

As a non-US citizen I would genuinely love to know why that particular riot was so bad when so many died last year and plenty of Dems were in full support of them. This is not me excusing Jan 6th in any way but it was 1 day compared to more than a hundred that happened in the year prior that were largely excused and supported by the mainstream press.

Imagine unironically condemning the Capitol riot as violent insurrection, yet labelling the riots in Portland and coincidentally every major city in the US ran by Democrats as being mostly peaceful. Despite the murders, despite the clashing with police, despite the arson attacks on federal buildings. With the skyrocketing crime rate from failed defunding police policies. Where what was once one of the most expensive US cities to live in, the San Francisco property market is flatlining because residents are seeking refuge from the riots and crime elsewhere.

Trump doesn't really care whether the Capitol riots were objectively violent or not. No Republican does. He's not an idiot, he knows how to play the media like a fiddle and provoke a reaction. He used them to unwittingly further his own campaign and present himself as the underdog the establishment hated. "They hate me and they hate you! Oh look vitriolic reporting on me and my voters. Guess I was right. Fake news!"

All he did, was do exactly what the Biden administration and top Democrats have done to describe a riot they didn't sanction. You don't have to agree with Trump's comment concerning the Capitol riots, that's not the point. Look how hypocritically aggravated they are in response to their own tactics of clever wordplay.
