I usually just put my thumb there to keep brad from blowing out.

Thank you for giving this valuable tip without milking a 10 minute video out of it. I would give you an award if I could.

I’ve used this exact tool for years without figuring that out. Outstanding tip!

Great advice and we all knew what you meant, 90* not 180 but still very good small trick for the newbies

Pretty cool advice. I've been using brad nailers for around 15 years and didn't know they only deflect sideways. Over time i just started going by the feel. Thanks

Brad's will generally go whichever direction the grain tells them to go

I rotate it 180 degrees and I find the deflection theory to be 90 % accurate. You’re a genius on the level of hypotenuse and others. Well done.

This is great advice! I’m 44 and been using these 30 years and never thought about this

Good info. Those blowouts happen on some of the best projects. I just started using a heavier gauge and a shorter finishing nail. Now I'll try to remember to try this 👍🏾

I have known that since 1991 after shooting my finger. This also applies to a finish and pin nailer. I also do it with my framing nailer.

I'm this many days old and nobody ever told me such a simple solution. Thank you!

I've never had a problem with brad nails. In fact until just now I didn't even know who Brad was.
Thanks Brad.

i reached this conclusion on my own as a kid helping my dad, im in my 30s now doing the same work and still shock people when i show them how easy it is to avoid the nail changing direction. with round nails it doesent matter much but with any chisel pointed flat nails always nail perpendicular to the grain and it wont happen except in some very hard woods or knots.

All this time I’ve been using a Brad nailer and did not know this. Thank you 😊

I work for a national window and door installation company, as high end as consumer windows get. This helps for sure, reducesissues, but they will still deflect pretty often if you have enough windows or doors to trim. The wood grain itself will guide it out often times. Still worth doing

This seems so obvious after all these years you made me realize it.
