Presonus M7 Budget Mic Review / Test (vs. NW700, TM80, AT2020, U87)

Today I review a budget mic, the Presonus M7. This offers a rolled off low end, a forward mid section and a somewhat dull air region. I don't think this mic sounds particularly good on any sound source, and I don't recommend it as a stand alone purchase, but if you're getting it as a part of a kit you can make it work.

3 Years ago I bought the Presonus Audio Box Bundle, came with the Mic, Interface, Pop Filter, and two decent studio-grade monitor speakers, etc. all for 300 flat. It still holds up pretty well.
If you know how to treat a room/Soundproof around your mic, along with mix vocals down, This mic isn't that bad.

It's not a bad sounding mic... It's not great but it's not bad... The TM-80 sounds like the best for the money... and the AT2020 is overrated...

I got one of these mics in a kit back in 2017 that my dad bought for me- he primarily got it for the microphone and not the production software, I'm now getting back into music and audio recording properly, and feel a little better since I thought that the stuffy sound on my vocals was me, know I know it was probably my microphone because I was 11 and didn't know anything on how to use it

I would say Presonus chose a weird frequency response for this microphone. I liked it for rhythm guitar even tho it has the wrong curve for that, it suits your guitar/speaker nicely there. Wouldn't buy the mic myself but enjoyed the review, excellent as always.

Danke! Hey Bandrew 🎧Well, this mic isn't even worth the 70 $. Voice sounded dull, and e-guitar wasn't exciting but distorted in a bad manner. Acoustic guitar sounded simply flat. Anyone who might consider this mic because of its price should either go for the really cheap 20 $ Behringer or just support this channel.

I'd just recently been considering the PreSonus M7 as a standalone purchase (for video calls) and there weren't many reviews... now I know not to buy it.

I had this microphone. I bought a Presonus Audiobox USB interface in 2012. Bundled with it were this M7 and the Presonus HD7 headphones. I immediately recognized the HD7 headphones as rebranded Superlux HD681. I took a look at the Superlux microphone offerings and found the HO-8, which looks identical to this M7.

I've regretted all PreSonus hardware I've ever purchased, especially the studio monitors, which are fraught with noise issues. I love using Studio One, but I don't understand why they keep putting out these physical products that are so bad.

Oh, it uses the same body as the Marantz PodPack1 Mic. Now the question is, if the circuitry is the same.

This has a nasally tone on your voice unless you happen to have a cold at the moment. I recall you sounded much better on the Presonus PX-1.
