Send effects in Reason - the right way

Send effects in Reason come a long way. In this video tutorial about Reason I will be talking about using Send effects the right way! I will be presenting two different methods on how I normally apply sends. One while using a combinator as a send effect unit (which turns in to an audio effect unit to process that audio). This could eventually lead to its own unique send effect bus if you want. The sky is the limit (or in this case your CPU).

The second approach is a more daring one. Since once you start understanding the idea what a send effect bus is (eg: a parallel effect where multiple signals are joined together in an output bus) you can re-arrange the SSL mixer doing just that. Once you have experienced that approach you realize you have unlimited sends to your disposal. Thus never have to use the default sends ever again. I might note, it requires a different way of thinking (since you have to look at the SSL mixer different). In case things get too complicated, you may forget the idea about this one too ;) No worries

I hope these ideas are helpfull!

Have fun with using send effects in Propellerhead Reason!

Wow! I've been using Reason since it was Propellerhead and never knew this. This is production gold! Thank you for sharing this gem! Amazing.

Always good to go back to your channel my friend. Reason Roots !!!

This is the way I've been doing sends since parallel channels were a thing. It makes much more sense to have more control over your FX. I also like to EQ the parallel channels too

Awesome man never thought of using a combi for EQ on send effects. Sometimes fixes are so simple but they just go over our heads.

This was EXTREMELY helpful in understanding the parallel channels/sends. Thank you!

I can always count on your channel to provide me with answers when i get stuck! haha you're awesome.
Basically i have an audio track that is already mixed and i want to bypass the Master section effects signal (only on the audio track).
Sending a parallel bus effect is the solution i was looking for and didn't know how to set it up, now i do thank you.

This opens so many possibilities fun fun fun

That's a really interesting idea. And yes, slightly confusing, which I guess is where the colours and naming helps a lot. Thanks!!

07:56 - I just tried this as I want to know if it's possible to make an FX channel strip so I can add Insert FX to my FX like I could in Cubase years ago. When I tried your process in R11 I still got the FX on the original Dr Rex device as well as the Parallel Channel.

This is great tech for parallel compression too for bus

Is there a way within Reason to "print the effect send" to be mixed with the raw dry track?

Very clear and well explained! Going to use this second way now! Is there any limit to channels/bus in reason? Thanks!

I'm confued indeed. This was a bit beyond my level, I guess. Maar toch bedankt!

so in your workflow you don't use ssl sends at all and always route everything to parallels? do ssl sends have something that we can't do with parallel processing ? (besides using less CPU)

how do you add effect event on the end of audio in reason

Really useful and practical way of giving yourself more flexibility with FX. Thanks 😊

Would I be right in saying that as you add more channels and FX, your processer is going to take a hit?

Awesome! Only one thing - usual sends are post-fader by default, while parallel channels are pre-fader.
