really hard to see it well but my bet is its thats hygrophila pinnatifida, i kept plants in my african tank when i kept them, hornwort is prolly a bad choice they going to get needles everywhere, and you cant plant leaves from a crypt and grow roots. try some anubius barteri its super thick and glues onto something so they can drag it around the tank and it will be fine. Rooting plants do pretty well if you pile rocks around the base of them. Hell yeah call that tank a win, keep up the content.

Hornwort is not a plant that supposed to go into the substrate it will just rot at the bottom until it floats again. If you want to keep it closer to the substrate you can put a plant weight at the bottom and have it sit on top of the substrate. Also crypt leaves that have fell off will not grow roots, and lastly I think you would benefit from root tabs and see better plant success!
