this is NOT a direct comparison, it's more to find out how the quasi ribbon drivers fair against the traditional planar drivers and their best tweeters. the true ribbon tweeters...

the results are really mind-blowing IMHO .

I have 2.5Rs and had a chance to hear the 1.7i speakers and couldn't agree with you more. I found the 1.7i to be extremely forward in the midrange and "shouty." I had heard previously the new quasi ribbon construction with the mylar forward was different and I don't like it.

The LRS for me sound better from a distance. Whether that is a diss or a compliment or even both is unclear. I sit in front of the kappa 8s and they sound so good esp on the bottom end but top end too. Sure polydomes faded in time thats why spares come in handy. The main place the LRS seems to win is vocals. The concert effect in my house is a win even from a distance. I cranked them up this morning and they really fail loud.

I have the LRS+ and 1.7 and the LRS+ seems to me less power hungry and the better speaker at lower volumes. For higher SPL the 1.7 is much better.

Do you use an active crossover to integrate your subs with the maggies?

The more damaged ears the need to upgrade to bigger panel. The average man with decent hearing will be fine with LRS.
