Russia demands Mariupol lay down arms but Ukraine says no

Russia demanded that Ukrainians in the besieged city of Mariupol lay down their arms Monday in exchange for safe passage out of town, but Ukraine rejected the offer.

If Americans were smart, they'd take this as a warning and limit corporate influence in U.S. elections and policies. Limit campaign financing and change the laws so that corporations cannot act like individuals concerning matters of the public.

As bad as this is, the conflict must not end until
Ukraine gets it's territory back, and Russia pays for the damages.
It must not be left to America and Europe to foot the bill alone to
rebuild Ukraine.
The worst possible outcome is one where Russia gets parts of Ukraine,
pays zero for the damages done and simply shrugs it's shoulders and walks away.

Russia butchered over a thousand Ukrainians who did lay down their arms to evacuate Ilovaisk in an almost identical scenario in 2014. The Ukrainians abandoned equipment, arms and ammunition and marched out along the negotiated corridor. The Russians caught them in the open - 40 Ukrainians of the brigade made it out alive. The Ukrainians won't fall for that again.

Anyone remember that time Germany gave the same offer to Stalingrad residents who chose to stay and end Germany's ability to make future war right then and there? Russia will never have a "6th Army" to lose. All they've got are conscripts and experienced but corrupt officers. This aint the Red Army that beat Germany 80 years ago. Its an army whose vehicles have tires that don't function.
