I think the older version was used as it was the easiest to adapt and maintain it'll get better just like cities skylines and surviving mars did

Comparing this to the PC version makes this a terrible review. Just review it on it's own merits please. It isn't aimed at PC players. The guys at Paradox have said multiple times that it is aimed at NEW players, so moaning because it doesn't have the stuff that people are now used to on PC seems ridiculous.

Sorry why arent you reviewing the game the consoles got, not reviewing it for what it failed to do for PC players? that makes no sense. Yes it should have been a more recent version, but its not, PC users were already immediately know their version will be superior, the game isnt designed for them. But designed fo those who cant play that version.

The version is different because development started when 1.7 was out. They explained this in there preview.

A bad review when comparing it to the Pc version which the console players won’t play/are not interested in. Yes, the console version is 1.7 but only because development had to start with a version. The will update it to be on par with the pc version as they said themselves in various streams. Next time please review the game as it is instead of stating multiple times how „outdated“ it is. Especially mentioning that you don’t know why they did it, when they stated the reason multiple times.

Remember who your audience is IGN. Who is this review for? To review this game from the perspective of a PC player and detract it because it is an older version is exceptionally poor reviewing imo. Sure, some PC Stellaris players may want to try playing on the sofa but the game is primarily aimed at console users who have not played the PC version so we don't care about "having to go back to a previous version". Mention this for sure, but don't make it the main thrust of the review.

This style of game seems like the natural continuation of my love for the Fifa 11 manager career mode, a decade ago

So you did no research when doing this review. The reason it is an earlier version of the game is that first 1.7 was when the porting project was started, and it would make the process infinitely harder to do the updates and the port at the same time. Second not all the expansions are available yet. If you sold the game plus all the expansions, it would cost 120 dollars or more and take longer to get out.

Pre-ordered both this one and Age of Wonders: Planetfall. I was already confident of the Paradox crew because I played Surviving Mars; I knew they'd be up to the task.

Such an amazing game! Been playing it alongside a few friends in party chat and we're all having a bunch of fun.
Truly a phenomenal game!
