I have to say, GM1 was the most underrated compact mirrorless camera back in 2014. I've used GM1 for more than 5 years, and it is still the one I use the most out of all my cameras.

2022 and I’ve dug mine out of the drawer. Just picked up a 35-100mm lens cheap and along with the 12-32mm kit lens it’s a great pocket kit. Image quality is still pretty impressive. Glad I stumbled across this video 👍

I’ve owned the Ricoh GR and GRii, as well as every iteration of the Fuji X100 including now the X100V. I bought the GM1 on release, loved it but ended up giving mine to a friend. I missed it so bought another one and it’s still my favourite for street photography. I use it with the 14 and 20mm lenses but find the 12-32 kit zoom excellent also.

Thanks for showing some love for the GM1 and GM5! I had a GRIIIx and found the autofocus a little frustrating in anything but bright light. The image quality was not noticeably better on the GR, and the battery life on the GR was even shorter than on the GM cameras. I use a GX850 or GX9, which also have tilting screens. MFT rules for street photography. The prices are a bit higher for the GM cameras in 2023, but still worth it.

I literally grabbed one of these used in 2020 after this review. Such a beast ! Thanks for the review 😉

I use an Olympus EPL-5 with either a Lumix 14 or 20 (equivalent to 28mm and 40mm respectively), and it is fantastic. Small, highly portable, sharp, fast, versatile, quiet, discrete - all of the adjectives that make for a superb street camera.

Picked up one today, 127 GBP with the 12-32 kit lens and OEM grip. This thing is surprisingly tiny and makes the successor, the GX880 seem rather large. Am keen to get a GM5, though.

I own this camera and think it is great. Automatic, scene and touch modes are great. Trying to shoot in Shutter or aperture priority can be a struggle with limited and tiny controls. In general I agree. Thumbs up. Not gonna sell mine anytime soon.

Hi Leo, I have the GM-5, it is 211 g vs GM-1 204 g and the size is about the same, just a tiny bit bigger. Love my GM-5. Cheers!

My fave lens for street with Panasonic M43 is the Leica 15mm 1.7 equivalent to 30mm of course.
It's stunning..
I use the GX80 / 85
But this model sounds great for the money.👍

MPB put one of those up just recently for more than £400, the slightly bigger and heavier GX800 is probably a better choice today and quite a bit cheaper.

I have two of this … Amazing. When I am with my family I paired one with the 42.5 mm f/1.7 for portraits and the other with the 25 mm f1.7

As it’s tiny I just have a little mini bag to switch faster between the 2 and keep the 20mm also.

Amazing.

I use the 15mm 1.7mm and the 42.5mm 1.7, or when I'm lazy the 12-32mm. Works well as they all fit into a small bag or jacket pockets. Generally I just take out the 15mm 1.7, a nice easy handheld kit. Cheers!

I remember buying this camera soon after it was launched and is still having it. One of my favourite small camera to have. Currently, I am using it as a backup for newer GX9. It is still working fine and is best paired with my Lumix 15mm f/1.7, the Samyang 12 mmf/2.0, the Oly 45mmf/1.8 and the 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 kit zoom I would say the image quality is not much less than tne GX9.

Yes, it has some disadvantages like the slow shuttrr speed for flash and the slow mechanical shuttrr speed of 1/500 sec but if you use it in low light condition, one barely need a shuuter speed above 1/500sec. A great carry around camera.

I was going to sell my GX7 (GM1's slightly bigger brother with IBIS) to help barely offset a GR iii that I really still shouldn't spend the money on. You've convinced me to save the $1100 + tax. I've got the 20mm already, I can spend a few hundred on the 14mm and recover from this bout of G.A.S. My bank account and I thank you.

The revelation with this camera (and the GM5) is that it is the same height or even slightly shorter than most lenses you will mount on it. This means you can stuff the whole rig into a small jacket pocket, or even a large pants pocket. And that means you can shoot street without carrying a bag.

4:17 Its a nice lens and I love it! But in full frame terms, it technically becomes a 40mm f3.4

Hey. The background music is way too loud.

I have the orange one and still use this camera. I also have the meta ones adapter allowing me to use my Sigma and Canon lenses
