The Garden Of Words - Exploring Inner-Growth:
This week's video essay continues our month discussing anime, as we delve into the natural lush greenery and intimate comfort of Makoto Shinkai's The Garden Of Words! While a flawed film due to its over-sentimentality, Shinkai's film demonstrates a developing of the filmmaker's strengths which would allow him to go on to create great films such as Your Name and Suzume. By reinforcing the motif of "learning to walk" within the film, Shinkai's film suggests that we're all capable of learning, improving, and growing.

I had no idea who this director was and looked up his wiki out of curiosity. All I knew was I was completely blown away visually. It's just stunning. Saw he directed the intros for Ys 2 and Legends of Heroes 3 which surprised me. I just gotta watch more of his stuff. I feel like I just discovered 13 Sentinels or Citizen Kane again knowing I'm gonna do a deep dive into an artist's work. I just really want to see what that person can create. The lighting, the reflections, even the rain out of focus are dreamlike and eye candy.
