The Bishnoi community is a community present in Rajasthan.  They are regarded as the first environmentalists in the whole world . I myself am a Bishnoi.  Our God Guru Jambheshwar Bhagwan whom we regard as the incarnation of lord Vishnu like other incarnations came here to stop the ill practices, evil and lead the people to the right path of Dharma, nearly 600 years ago.
There is a set of 29 rules given by Guru Jambheshwar Bhagwan and whosoever followed them became a Bishnoi, and the most important of them is never to kill or even hurt any living organism whether it is a tree or a small ant, every organism has life and we should not hurt them, hence all Bishnois are Pure Vegetarian. Guru Jambheshwar Bhagwan preached his whole life and stopped many ill practices roaming in many parts of the country . For example, Sikandar Lodi was the Sultan of Delhi at that time and he consumed Cow meat,   Guru Jambheshwar Bhagwan came preaching to his castle where the Sultan was near a recently killed Cow, Guru Jambheshwar Bhagwan rubbed his hand on the head of the Cow and it became alive using his powers, Sikandar Lodi was astonished by this and Guru Jambheshwar told him to stop all ill practices and preached him, Sikandar Lodi realised his mistake and no meat was consumed and no animal was killed in his court from that day on and he led a rightful life. Guru Jambheshwar Bhagwan after leading people to the right path, returned from earth like other incarnations of lord Vishnu.

You might have heard about Amrita Devi Bishnoi, So nearly 300 years ago the King of Jodhpur ordered his soldiers to get wood for the construction of his palace . The soldiers arrived in a Bishnoi village where Khejri (A big tree species found in Rajsathan) and started cutting the trees, the news of this reached to the people of the Bishnoi villages and they said the soldiers to stop cutting the trees but they refused . So Amrita Devi Bishnoi and many other people from various Bishnoi village said if you wanted to cut the trees, you have to cut us first and they hugged the trees. The soldiers didn't stop and killed all the people hugging the trees and hundreds of Bishnois from various villages sacrificed their lives, even one of my ancestors might have sacrificed their lives for the protection of trees. When this news reached the King of Jodhpur he realised his mistake and ordered his soldiers to stop cutting the trees. The king ordered that never a single tree will be cut from all the Bishnoi villages in Rajasthan from that time . This is regarded as the first Environmental movement in the whole world . This was the first Chipko movement . Later Sunderlal Bahuguna a famous environmentalist whom you all would know got to know about this Bishnoi movement and was very inspired and led the famous Chipko Movement in northern India . The Bishnoi community today is praised by various International Organizations, that when no one even not knew the importance of trees, pollution, global warming etc 600 years ago, the Bishnoi community started protecting the wildlife.

Even the woodcutter in our villages waited for the trees to die themselves of old age . Even today the parts where there are Bishnoi Villages in Rajasthan various trees can be seen growing and many animals like Peacocks, deers, Nilgai etc can be seen roaming and no one hurts them . Even the dead are not cremated(done in most Hindu Communities) but buried because cremations require burning of wood and hence cutting of many trees, people are buried as they think humans have  come from the earth and will emerge into the earth.

The temple talked about in the video is Mukti Dham Mukam near Bikaner, Rajasthan which is the Samadhi Sthal of Guru Jambheshwar Bhagwan and regarded as the most important temple for Bishnois.

In our Community where even cutting a living tree is not right, killing of Blackbuck deers by Salman Khan is a very big offense . But we would have forgiven him if he even had apologized,   which he did not do because of his ego .
