Still a great looking car. The passage of years has been kinder to the Capri than many of it's 70s/80s rivals. Thanks for another enjoyable review, Paul.

Turns out that this lad was a bit of a prophet, as good 280’s have rocketed in popularity, particularly during the last couple of years. Neat interior and bigger wheels equals almost double the value of an almost identical 2.8i Special. Dead clever marketing by Ford.

Ford could of done so much more with the 280 Brooklands.
Underneath is just a 2.8i special with nice colour, leather seats and 15inch wheels.

When the 2.8i was launched in 1981, it developed more net hp from an na engine than a 6.0 v8 cadillac, also new for 1981. The daft thing was the 6.0v8 had multi displacement technology to improve mpg, but could never get near the 31mpg the capri 2.8i would achieve at a constant 75mph. Its almost like the new ecoboost engines using more fuel than the larger na engines they were meant to replace.

One of the few cars I owned that the faster you drove it the better it got.

This geeza needs to act more natural and stop trying to emulate the irritating
the burns too mate..
Had my say, so I’ll give a positive comment vid, nice Brooky and nice East Yorkshire location.

Would of been epic if ford made a modern uk European capri like the modern ford mustang version.
And modern ford engines and running gear and offer a EV version. It would be a big seller for them. Although the ford US model ford mustang sales might of taken hit.

A good review but once again the car is wrongly labelled as a Brooklands… There is no such thing, Ford never called it that. The correct name is Capri 280. I’m a Capri owner, my car is not called a Capri Oyster Gold.

Nice review. I owned a Signal Amber/Black vinyl roof Mk2 1.6s then a Black Mk3 2.0s mid 80's, loved them. Never did get that 2.8i I always promised myself. Would love to own a Mk2 3.0s in Signal Amber/Black vinyl roof if any still left...

Oh how i miss my old 280. Started with a 1.6s then two capri 2.0s. Then saw a 280 by chance in a garage been repaired. Two months later i was the proud owner of one. The only thing that let it down was the limited slip diff and the poor headlamps.
