How to Create and Use Epics in Jira - Atlassian Jira Software Tutorial

#Epics are a little wonky in #Jira. There's an epic name, an epic link, an epic status. Atlassian does Epics ever so differently than your average agile guidebook. In this #tutorial, I'll show you how I create and use epics within the world of Jira. There are different ways of creating epics and some ways are easier than others.

Epics help you organize and "bucketize" your work. Having a bunch of user stories in your backlog isn't very helpful if there is no method to the madness. Epics can be a very useful way to help tame all the different stories that are required to deliver a world class product. If you aren't using epics, or if you aren't sure you are using epics, give this video a watch. Epics are a critical component of the agile methodology and this video should help you get some direction on how to use Epics to organize your Jira issues.

If you haven't already, I recommend you check out my previous videos on how to create a Jira project. This video is the next logical step in my introduction to Jira series. After you have created your very first Jira project, it is time to start exploring the user interface.

Learning the basics here can really help you down the road. Knowing how to find the information that is most critical to you and being savvy on where things are contained within the world of Jira are going to give you an edge over your teammates.

If you like this video, please make sure to give it a thumbs up. If you haven't already, please consider subscribing. If you have any questions about anything discussed so far, please feel free to make sure you leave your question in the comments section.

Nice job. Thanks! You should put links to the other two videos in this one, and the link to the first video in the second.

Hi Apetech, hope you are active with your responses. Your videos are very helpful! Can you provide some information about spikes? For instance, I have some assignments that our BA is doing, like, requirements gathering. I understand that I can classify this as spikes as there is no clear time and scope defined yet. Thanks for your help!

hi, do you have an video on how to create an automation that will close automatically an epic whenever its tasks are closed?

It is a great video . one suggestion.
\Instead of using wordings like "my amazing epic", it will be great for learners to refer to it in practical naming conventions, please use it in your next videos. how an epic linked with a bug story in that epic and how a not closed story will be taken into next sprint, please explain

Thanks for the great video. I created my initiative after all of my epics were created. I have set up the initiative to be the parent of all the relevant epics I created earlier. However in my Plan aka roadmap display none of my child epics appear under the initiative I created. But they do appear on the roadmap and all of the child issues appear underneath the appropriate epic. My question is what do I need to do to make the child epics of the initiative to appear under the initiative in the plan aka roadmap view? Thanks in advance for whatever help you can provide.

Is there a way to upload a bulk of EPICS, is it the same way as uploading tasks in bulk?

I just learnt about Jira today on my course so I don't know anything really about it. I am having an issue when I try to create epic as there is no "Epic Name" field appearing at all. What am I doing wrong?
