4 DIY Hangover Cures to Get Your Head Back in the Game
Who doesn’t love a good night out? You can’t beat it! The problem is when a good night turns into a hairy morning.
Whether we drank too much, didn’t eat enough, or mixed our spirits, the resulting hangover often has us questioning whether we’ll ever go out again!
Fear not — we have four DIY hangover cures that are sure to take the edge off the morning after.
DIY ‘Pedialyte’
Store-bought Pedialyte replaces minerals and fluids that are lost when the body is dehydrated, and when you’re hungover, you are most certainly dehydrated. Whether you’re vomiting or not, your body needs some serious replenishing.
This homemade substitute uses coconut water, which replenishes electrolytes and soothes nausea; cranberry juice, which is rich in antioxidants, and salt, which replaces the essential salt your body has lost when dehydrated. Bonus? No artificial preservatives, colors, or sweeteners.
4 cups coconut water, all natural and unsweetened
½ cup cranberry juice, organic, preferably unsweetened.
¼ teaspoon salt
1. Pour 4 cups of coconut water into a large pitcher, and add ½ cup cranberry juice.
2. Add ¼ teaspoon salt, and mix until dissolved.
3. Keep in the fridge for mornings that need a little extra help.
Electrolyte ice cubes
Sports drinks, such as Gatorade and Powerade, replace essential minerals, salts and fluids that are lost when the body becomes dehydrated. They also work beautifully when the body is hungover.
These electrolyte ice cubes are great to have on hand, and ensure that you’re well-armed when an unexpected night out results in a less-than-comfortable morning.
The addition of a little vitamin C does the body good, too!
Your favorite sports drink, such as Gatorade or Powerade
Orange
Ice cube tray
1. Fill an ice cube tray with your preferred electrolyte-enriched sports drink.
2. Slice an orange thinly, and cut each slice into quarters.
3. Lay a piece of orange into each compartment of the tray so that it floats on top, and freeze the tray.
4. Pop ice cubes into a tall glass of water or coconut water, as needed.
Pickle juice cure
Believe it or not, pickle juice can go a long way toward preventing or curing a hangover.
When ingested, the vinegar and salt that are found in this sweet and sour liquid cause your body to store water, which is normally lost through heavy drinking. When your body becomes severely dehydrated, headaches and nausea begin to set in.
So, bottoms up!
Pickle juice
Ice cubes
Pickle spear (optional)
1. Simply pour your strained pickle juice over ice and garnish it with a pickle spear, if desired.
2. Be brave, and drink it down!
Eggs, eggs, and more eggs!
Nothing makes you feel better than a hot, buttery breakfast when you’ve overdone it the night before. The cysteine in eggs actually helps you combat the toxins alcohol leaves behind, settling your stomach and making you feel better.
Eggs
Butter
Toast
1. Fry up a couple of eggs with some butter, and enjoy them on a thick piece of warm, buttered toast.
