That's why China throws money on BRI to build roads and ports in southeast Asia. Reship Chinese goods there and avoid 25% tariffs.

The companies importing goods from non-tariffed countries can also increase their margins to stay just below the ones who import from China. They'll still sell more units and have a higher profit as well. Ultimately, it's the consumers who pay for that extra margin or tariff and also see a decline in the availability of choices. More often than not, it's those companies, who import from non-tariffed countries or manufacture locally, who lobby for getting the tariffs imposed in the first place. Meanwhile, the Chinese companies, who are now suffering losses, might also start cutting cost and if they were enjoying the services of a US based company, they might be affected as well (i.e. the companies exporting from US might suffer). Unless, there are a plethora of companies manufacturing/operating outside of China in every sector, I don't see how this is going to work, in terms of keeping the prices low for at least category of goods.
