Kestrel Attack - Somerset Barn Owl

First the stock doves wanting to nest, then a Buzzard attack, and now a Kestrel! Our Barn Owl pair are really having to defend their box!

Apologies for the dirty internal camera. They came back to full residence before we had a chance to clean it.

Many thanks for our lovely Moderators and Subscribers that time stamp these amazing events for us.

they fight each other a lot. it is like an ancient rivalry. the owls is clever, wanting to bring the fight inside, where its larger size and strength is to its advantage and the agility of the kestrel is nullified. very clever.

When the Owl goes back inside, he tells his mate "Hide, I want the Kestrel to think I'm alone, then when he comes in, we'll jump him and have him for dinner"

Nature is all around, even next door to a road and passing traffic. A most diverting video of what goes on in other lives.

the mom went into the nest because the kestrel has little chance inside. 👏

Animal life is largely one endless chain of predation.

Barn Owl has one bad ass grip with those claws. The Kes would get a very nasty injury scrapping with Barny.

The baby was so sill on the left I did not even notice it the first time through the video.

For being known as the wise ones of the bird world he sure was quick to give himself a tactical disadvantage there

American Kestrels AKA sparrow hawks nest in hollow trees or abandoned woodpecker nests . This likely this was an attempt by a female sparrow hawk steal the nest site from the Owl that didn't end well . Female sparrow hawks are larger than the males .
