Due to health issues I'm home bound the majority of the time. I even found something that made me smile this morning. I looked out the kitchen window and saw wild violets bloomed all over the yard. My husband, who's not in much better shape than me, went out and cut me a bouquet if those tiny violets and put them in water in one of those dose cups from cough syrup. 😎👍 That's my man

He summarized all the reasons I have never liked the term "ally" and feel strange when I see the type of merchandise he describes (with some exceptions) being used by White Americans on a regular basis outside of a protest context. Being supportive of other people's problems isn't something you should want to be thanked or acknowledged for, it's the bare minimum you need to do to be a decent person. If you are doing something to help someone and you get upset when they don't thank you, you weren't doing it for the right reason in the first place.
