As an insomniac I am beyond jealous of their ability to deep sleep. It's 3am and I'm wide awake.

Dead sleep is the perfect time to run your fingers along their body feeling for bumps, lumps, cuts and scrapes and looking in their ears and mouths.This is all for medical reasons. You can stay on top of their health this way.

Ferrets are noodle rats and I love them, them seem similarly chaotic, and nicely fluffy.

I can’t tell you how many times my ferret used to scare me with this when he got older. Usually he’d pop up as soon as he heard me come in because he knew that meant the good food and free roam time. But then there were the times he did this and went full limp noodle. It’s been three years but I still miss him every day.

I call this Shannon sleeping. My 30 year old daughter still sleeps like that. I could toss her in the air when she was a toddler and she still wouldn't wake up. The only way to wake her from this state is for me to say her name. My granddaughters have called me because they couldn't wake her.

My neigbor has 4, i learned sooo much about ferrets thru her.they are so cool.when she goes out of town i watch them.i mean really watch them as i let them out to play for few hrs.they go nuts, then 1 by 1 they pass out and i round them up and put away.they are dead to the world

The first time this happened with my cat of almost 20 years who I raised from literally a baby I saw her be born It freaked me out so much. She trusted me so much that she fell into a deep sleep where I was able to pull up her paw and move her head and shake her almost a little bit out of fear that she was actually dead. It was incredibly unnerving because I had never seen a cat behave this way. But honestly if you understand animals and how they sleep around people that they trust it's actually very sweet that they will trust you to this extent to protect them and their environment being very calming and relaxing to them. Doesn't make it any less weird when he see it happen but it is still sweet.

this is why i call them cat-sneks
because cats can do something similar, where they go into that deep robot sleep, (before the hypnic jerks), and the second you see them, your lizard brain panics and thinks they're dead because they aren't moving at all

Whenever animals do this, and go into a deep sleep, it means they trust their surroundings and stuff around them fully.
