I use a large funnel and large coffee-like filters from Cabela's. The filters are finer and get all but the microscopic bits out of the oil. I can get 6 months of weekly use. It helps if you use the oil for one type of food. I agree with the fish as it imparts a flavor to the oil you just can't get out by filtering.

You mention fish, but how about shrimp? Also only one use?
