Reverse Tie Dye / Bleach Dye Tutorial

The kit gives you red blue and yellow… you know, the primary colours. So you can mix them to make other colours…

I always wash it before I put it on. I used to work at a thrift store as a kid. Not all people are clean unfortunately.

Please read : I'm a professional dyer and for anyone who wants to try this discharge technique you need to be aware that the bleach is still active and eating at the fabric until it is fully neutralized. This is even after washing! Your piece can fall apart and or get holes in it after a short time. To neutralize the bleach mix 3% hydrogen peroxide in water. A 10 to 1 ratio should do it. 10 parts water to 1 part peroxide. You can prepare the mixture in a dishpan or bucket and have it ready before you begin bleaching. Once the piece as lightened enough to your liking, immediately soak the piece in the peroxide solution. Leave it submerged in the peroxide and water for several minutes. Then rinse and you can proceed with your next steps.

Exactly. It was fabric dye, which often happens with dark colors. The dyes are unstable and come out with water.

You probably know this but if you mix bleach and vinegar it creates a deadly fume. Obviously that doesn’t have anything to do with what you’re doing but it sorta freaked me out when I learned and your video reminded me. so many times could have gone so wrong. Just wanted to let people know so they stay safe ❤

Can't wait to see how it turned out! For some reason i never though of reverse tie dying something from the thrift store!

Just a tip for next time: since they gave you the three primary colors, you can mix them to get pretty much any color you like!
