While the #Dell #XPS15 keeps the same sleek look we have come to know and appreciate over the past few years, the internals of the 2023 version have been updated quite significantly.
If it makes sense to stuff an RTX 4070 in such a slim chassis at the end of the day, we will tell you in our review.

Hey guys! Unfortunately, we made a little mistake in our SSD Benchmark. The 532.8 MB/s are for CDM 5/6 Write 4K Q32T1, and the 4778 MB/s are for CDM 5 Read Seq: 4776 MB/s.
Thanks for watching!

Dell's XPS took a very good lesson from Apple in that your interface with a notebook- screen, keyboard, speakers, touchpad- is *extremely* important, which is something that other brands are still figuring out to this day, but they still haven't figured out the lesson that Apple has learned from their crippled Intel MBPs: that there is a limit to the sacrifices you should make for slimness.

You can see it in the new MBPs, where they abandoned the race for being the slimmest and just settled on something sensible. Just bringing the full depth most of the way towards the lip solved so many of the problems they created for themselves, it's crazy.

I'm sure that a lot of very significant watts could have been freed up if they abandoned this chassis design where it grows ever thinner towards the lip. It might look very pretty, yes, but it sacrices a boatload of not only performance, but all of your ports! It's a nearly three thousand dollar device and it has fewer ports than a chromebook! It's a business laptop that requires a bloody adaptor to hook a wireless mouse and a projector to it!

We have to give them points for the many things they do right- high battery life with high resolution screen and powerful processor, paired with good build quality, speakers, trackpad and keyboard. And, something rare in thinner devices, fully upgradable RAM! That's great stuff.

If this GPU inched towards 75~90 Watts, and I'm entirely onfident that's very doable in a chassis with this footprint, then we'd be having a conversation about how this is an *incredible* device with almost no compromise. As it is, it's leaving too much on the table. Seriously, the Aero 15 crammed a 105 W 3070 in a chassis two mm thicker, and Dell is much larger than Gigabyte, especially in mobile devices. Apple figured out that virtually everyone would rather have half again the performance for a truly negligible increase in thickness and heft.

Also, 720p webcam on a $3k 2023 XPS, what the fuck Dell? This is your flagship "do it all" business notebook, but it can't manage a decent Zoom meeting? At least the mic is good, I suppose.

There's never been a generation of GPUs that have enabled XPS-like devices the way the RTX 4000 does, and yet Dell has simply elected to fail.

Having used this computer for 2+ years now, even the iris integrated graphics that I didn’t even know was being used was running all of my games at 120+ fps stably. When I learned that the 4070 wasn’t even being used at the time, once switched I was able to go up to about but not quite 240 especially on games like fortnite, and 500+ fps on minecraft with shaders + ray tracing. I’d love to see what the quality is like on the 4k touchscreen display, as I decided to go with the 1080p FHD screen, which I generally prefer. I’m a little late to this video lol but I just wanted to provide these insights. And yes the CPU I chose was the i9 evo, that has 20 threads. And of course I got the dual TB storage option. Got all of this for about $1200 USD after a student discount. I could not be more pleased to have this as my pc until I can comfortably afford the components for a decked out pc build.

I want to thank the 13th Gen XPS lineup. I purchased my XPS 17 2022 at a good price. The 4K display is mind blowing!

Even Appale changed their take on ports with their 14" laptops but Dell insists!

If the laptop is plugged into a power source, is the wattage delivery improved for better graphics performance from the RTX 4070?
Thank you.

I got the 12th gen 3050ti XPS 15 for 1, 400 GBP and it's an incredible machine. It's virtually silent when performing office work with the battery able to last around 8 hours. It can handle pretty much all games I play (sometimes I do need to drop the graphics), however, I do wish I could've had the option to spec it with a 3060. Despite this, the price dell is asking for the 13th gen model is absoulutely outrageous. If I were buying a laptop right now I'd probably just get my 12th gen again.

More interested in XPS 17 model. Hope they will use new power delivery standarts, because mine 9700 is limited by 130W charger, and vapor chamber can probably handle up to 180W. Its a shame that they didn't put chamber in 15 inch model.

My only deal-breaker is that the headphone jack is on the right side. The cord gets in the way of the mouse for right handed people

Hi, better to buy this or a discounted 2022 model?

Hi, thanks for amazing review. If gaming is not an option I am looking for in Dell XPS 15 do you recommend going for cheaper 4060 or stay with 4070. As I see price difference in both. My primary task will be around usual IT task and bit of entertainment and might consider content creation in future if i go along that path.

I've owned an XPS15 (2020) for 3 years now. Once you've made a clean install without all the Dell's bloatwares, it's a good computer with a very premium feel. 3 usb-c ports was not an issue. I'm a photographer and in a pinch, it's a computer you can use in front of your clients. For low demanding tasks, it's a very good laptop. Speakers quality is very good, as is the OLED display.

5:47 At least this Dell will most likely not crash/reboot constantly like my Asus Rog Flow X16 (3070 Ti) does.

Thanks for mentioning PWM. Most neglect it and for some users it is a deal breaker.

Hello, I mainly edit 4k 60p videos on Davinci Resolve and do some light gaming on the side. I curently have a desktop : i7 8700k with 1080ti 11gb and 32gb of ram. Is this laptop a good replacement? One goes for 2, 195.50 euros on sale right now with i9-13900h 13th gen - RTX 4070 - 32 gb of ram. I know that editing sofware are getting more and more GPU dependent so I am kind of scared to do the move, and also does not have 1000 more to spend. What are your thoughts or recommendation? Thank you

hello, I'm looking for a laptop for mechanical engineering, my heaviest usage will be working with solidworks. what would you recommend? I'm looking for something not too big so I can use it on the train, so 15 inches would be good and also max 2K euros or so

Hey im thinking about buying asus zephyrus m16, but i can't choose between last year 3070ti or this year 4070 series. ( They are relatively close in pricing after all) which one is better for me?

Do the speakers still rattle? (9500 owner here)

Audio driver is also still a concern. My Waves hasn't worked in 2 years despite reinstalls etc.

Many other minor annoyances with Dells in general, like the constant fan cycling on/off.

OLED should have been 90Hz+ at least when plugged in - I understand battery life is already taking a major hit.
