More doses of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine are coming to Charlotte as the Mecklenburg County Health Dept. laid out its distribution plan for the shot.

Health Director Gibbie Harris said the first priority for the vaccine will be health care workers who are high risk for exposure to COVID-19. The other top groups are state certified EMT paramedics and EMTs who provide "direct patient duties." Harris said the county is working with agencies across the Charlotte area that provide medical services for patients.

Vaccines developed by Pfizer began arriving at 11 hospital systems within the state Monday. Healthcare workers are the first in line to receive the vaccines.

Gov. Roy Cooper acknowledged the achievement of vaccines arriving in North Carolina but urged people to continue taking the virus seriously.

"Our numbers are still too high, and the vaccine can’t yet have a significant effect," Cooper said. "We must get these trends turned around. Seeing vaccinations underway gives us hope at the end of a hard year. But this virus continues to be extremely contagious and deadly." #WakeUpCLT #COVID19 #Coronavirus
