“Season three of the acclaimed sci-fi drama The Expanse is well underway, but unfortunately, it will be the last season to air on Syfy. The final episode will be the season finale slated for early July, Deadline reports. The Los Angeles-based production company behind the show says it will try to shop the series to other potential broadcasters or streaming platforms around town."

SyFy doesn't seem to understand that they need to maintain a multitude of good sci-fi shows for a long period of time to get people to learn that SyFy is the place to see science fiction. They need to look at the shows as investments in the channel, rather than just at how profitable each show is on its own.

The Expanse's deal with SyFy was such that only LIVE viewings went toward its ratings. DVR views didn't count. Views on other services like Amazon didn't count. We live in a world where only a small percentage of any given show's views come from the night it airs. This goes a long way to explain how a series so beloved by both fans and critics still got the axe.

Expanse really needs to break from SyFy or renegotiate their arrangement if SyFy decides to take them back. Ideally, they get picked up by a streaming service with cash to burn like Netflix or Amazon.

The Network Exec's need to find a new algorithm for deciding which show stays or goes. Jay has a good idea with sending shows to a streaming platform as a last effort to save a show on the edge, but still think the metrics they use are out dated.

This is madness...! Cancelling the Expanse will effect the ratings of their other shows. If they can't keep their best shows on the air! Then no one is going to give any of their new shows a chance. SYFY is currently trying to promote their new shows but no one is talking about them all anyone is talking about is that they just cancelled The Expanse.

I was originally looking forward to checking out Night Flyers. I though they have one great and successful space opera would lead into another great and successful space opera... It didn't even enter my head that The Expanse would be cancelled...! but after that I now have huge reservations about Night Flyers and I feel that cancelling The Expanse has almost certainly doomed Night Flyers. No one is going to watch another space opera on SYFY jut after they cancelled their best show period since BSG.

I think SYFY has just killed any chance of then successfully launching another space opera for maybe ever... The only good thing that could come out of this is if Amazon/Netflix/Hulu picks up The Expanse and anything else that the SYFY has that is actually worth watching. If SYFY doesn't want to transition to streaming services then there are plenty of other alternatives. It's just a shame that SYFY is wasting so much potential. #SaveTheExpanse

Just finished reading book 4 (Cibola Burn) today. Crossing my fingers that it finds a new home. The show is just getting to the end of book 2, so I expect they'll spend the rest of the season getting book 3's plot rolling. That one is bonkers.
