There are many hand positions possible but typically the primary concern is creating a consistent threat of the choke to ensure you can better prepare for the positioning of your training partners hands. Thanks for the details! I’ve got John’s back attack system and this pretty much sums his hand fighting principles in a nutshell. I’ve noticed a lot of competitors lately have been really good at getting the strangle without trapping an arm, more in particular, the overhook side. I believe you did the same in ADCC and the trials.

I had someone's back the other day and I was doing the whole hand fighting thing where it was a frustrating perpetual draw. Trapping an arm like that would have made the difference, thanks, great tutorial, there are a lot of other small details that I need to take note of as well such as the side you're coming down on relative to your strangle arm. I'm wondering how that plays in.
