This song helped me through one of the toughest times of my life. I lost my daughter, my marriage fell apart, my wife divorced me, the relationship with my living daughter has changed, I was homeless. But this song, the Shawn James version, really helped me.

I’ve not only listened but sang this song so many times there’s no way to count. God and this song kept me going! Thank you Shawn James for giving this song some soul! It’s what I needed.

I like Frank Sinatra but this version of
That's Life by Shawn James hit's my heart and knocks me to my knees.
He sings this with such raw emotion.

lyric by Shawn

That's life
That's what all people say
You're ridin' high in April
Shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune
When I'm back on top, back on top in June
That's life
And as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks
Stompin' on a dream
But I don't let it get me down
'Cause this fine old world it keeps spinnin' 'round
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate
A poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing
Each time I find myself flat on my face
I just pick myself up and get back in the race
That's life
Oh, and you know I can't deny it
Many times I thought of quitting, baby
But my heart won't buy it
And if I didn't think it was worth one single try
Well, I'd hop upon a big bird and then I'd fly
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate
A poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing
Each time I find myself flat on my face
I just pick myself up and get back in the race
That's life
Oh, and you know I can't deny it
Many times I thought of cuttin' out
But my heart won't buy it
And if there's nothing shakin' come this July
Well, I'm gonna roll myself in a little ball and die
That's life
And as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks
Stompin' on a dream
But I don't let it get me down
'Cause this fine old world it keeps spinnin' 'round

I used to listen to that when I was studying to join the army. Depressed, weak, addicted, unemployed, without any achievements in life and with many problems in family and in myself. But always with a small flame of hope deep in the heart, which never went out, even without making any heat.

This song made me look at all that degrading situation and laugh. Laughing because somehow everything would pass, that gave me that certainty.

Today there are 5 months left for me to graduate as a sergeant. Many personal achievements. Pride and personal dignity recovered. Excited about everything I can still do in life and certain that I will achieve. Out of the darkness and away from pessimism.

It's worth believing. It's worth getting out of the ground up and taking the first step towards something good.

Idk how more people havent mentioned this but Your cover is just so much more optimistic, it fills you with a want to continue on, while Sinatra's was more bleak, equally graceful and beautiful but somber and I love how it simply is

So Frank Sinatra's "That's Life" was and is my favorite song. With that said, Shawn James, you sir did a beautiful job with this song. An awesome rendition. Love your voice and can't wait to hear more.

This was my grandads favourite song of all time. He's the reason I have any singing voice, it'll always hold a special place in my heart, because the day I went to sing for him, he'd passed away. Sad I missed that chance

Here are Shawn's lyrics, there's some subtle differences from the original so I thought I'd make them.

Shawn you just know how to make your own way with these words . You’ve really hit the emotion one feels when one hears these words . The melody you’ve added to these words has bits own glory in history and will forever remain a major part of my life. God made you this way and it’s a blessing !
