How to Organize Prismacolor Pencils [Best Color Order]

I am frequently asked how to organize Prismacolor pencils. Do I organize them based on the color order found on the box of the Prismacolor Premier 150 Colored Pencil set? Or do I have my own Prismacolor order system? Well, as you can probably guess, I have my own system that I am happy to share with you.

I find that organizing my Prismacolor pencils helps me not only find the colors I am looking for more quickly, but I also get more use out of them.

Is my order the best way to organize Prismacolor pencils? For me, yes. But you may like something different. So watch the video to see if you would like to organize your Prismacolor colored pencils the same way I do.

Here's a quick rundown of how I organize my pencils:

1) My "Core 36" Pencils in Tri-Tone Sets

I would love to see how you organize your other pencils. Would you consider coming up with a book that would show not only the three pencils within the same color family that blend together but other color combinations? I have a set of 48 from when I was in college. They were and are my babies, lol. I saved up for them and was so happy when I got them. I can’t imagine managing that many pencils though, that’s a lot of colors....

Thanks for the excellent video. Have you noticed–over the years–a deterioration in the quality control for Prismacolor pencils since they changed ownership? For example, the colored cores being off-center, etc. I'm excited to watch more of your videos. I love to geek out over art mediums and materials!

It must have taken you years to know how to make all of those tritone combos. I took the time to organize mine by color wheel because I didnt have that chart on the box like yours, but if I had a better system, I would use that instead. Many of the colors in the 150 box of Prismacolor intrigue me but I have no idea what to use them with. I am fascinated with your system!
