This is very educational for me. I’m editing the 1925 version of Phantom of the Opera and I’m struck by how primitive the editing is on the original version. The editor didn’t even understand the movie’s flow. Characters are confused with other characters. Overall the story-line doesn’t make sense. It takes someone 100 years in the future with modern digital editing software to change it in order to make sense. I’ve read that the Movieola was invented until 1924, one year before Phantom. It appears to me that the editor wasn’t very aware of what he was doing.
