The former U.S. representative gives his first in-depth one-on-one interview with local news since leaving office to 13 On Your Side's Nick LaFave. They talk about why he left the GOP, how he got to speak during the first Trump impeachment, why he abandoned his own run for the White House, the Capitol attack, the conversation that still haunts him, and his possible future runs at elected office.

Great interview. Amash is an articulate, principled politician and we need more people like him in government. Really hoping he runs for public office again at some point.

I disagree with Amash on a lot, but he’s completely rational and respectful in those disagreements. I really think he is genuine.

I am a big fan of Justin Amash and hope he gets a lot more exposure. It can only benefit those of us who are tired of having only extremist choices. As a "Classical Liberal" I would welcome his candidacy.

I totally adore and respect Justin Amash. He's the best congressman I've ever had. He educated me about what was really going on in DC, proved to me that it IS possible to trust a politician and that we CAN and SHOULD *expect* to trust politicians. He is wise, thoughtful, kind, honest and well spoken. He has actually talked to me! ME! I felt listened to and cared about. That means so very much! Justin Amash is a sincerely good man. I wish him every good thing. I'll be paying attention to what he does in future. And if he ever runs for anything I have the opportunity to vote for, I'll vote for him without hesitation even though I don't agree with him on all political issues. By the way, this is an excellent interview and excellent information for all of us to know. We MUST fix the legislative process and get rid of the trash that has become the norm in congress. I agree with him on Rep. Meijer. I'm super glad to hear they keep in contact and Peter Meijer reaches out to him. That gives me a very good feeling about Rep Meijer.

I can't wait to hear what he is doing next. I only hope he is successful.

He seems to hold Republicans up to a higher standard than he does Democrats. I'd still vote for him. But it's... really annoying. It's almost as though he himself is performing theatrics. It's just that his performance has to do with appearing neutral. And there's no better way to do that than by criticizing one's own former party. I'd put Ben Sasse in the same category.

I'd like to know what Justin Amash has done for the constituents of his district? Every time I've called there I've gotten no response or reply. Every time I refer people there I get no response or reply. In fact, his office is notoriously known as one that responds to NO ONE in Michigan. And he decided to gain media attention by pretending to run for president for a good couple of weeks lol. Please leave and never come back. Good riddance.
