DIY window seat hacked with IKEA MALM nightstands

This dormer window was begging for a window seat!
*
I love an IKEA hack, and after using MALM nightstands to make a console table behind our sofa, I decided to use them again here.
*
I built a base for the IKEA MALM, then used plywood and trim pieces to cover the top, front, and sides. A little paint, and voila - we have an easy DIY window seat!
*
I added a battery operated light, played around with a pillows and a cushion, and created an accessible storage spot at the back with a hinged section. We can even still use the outlet if needed!

Can you still access the outlet that's behind it?

A battery bulb. Genius! I didn't even know there was such a thing. I still have the same wall sconces on my wall from when I moved in. They plug into the regular outlet and I hate looking at the wires hanging down the walls, and one is kinda broken and hard to turn on. I'm stealing your idea to replace them.

I wish YouTube would add favorites for shorts because this is one short I would love to go back to.

It looks so pretty and cozy. A lounge area with cushions under the window is one of my romantic interior ideas 😍

I've been renovating the upstairs 25 years after my dad renovated it, seeing you nail those pieces at the sides makes me shed a little tear, I really try to think of whoever comes after me to redo this space so they won't have to suffer like I am rn trying the rip stuff off that has 4 scres amd 5 nails stuck in a small part, I think using screws that are easy to remove would be better for a space like that since you would have to pry it out and ruin most likely the wall as well as the dresser 😅

Great use of space. I love the hidden storage in the back. Great place to hide valuables.

Great video and I love what you're doing! That window seat is so cute. The music being so loud did make it pretty difficult to listen to you explain what you were doing, though.

Great idea. I found a love of French tufted cushions for benches. They just hold their shape and place much better.

very cute! Caulking the cracks by that plywood you put in the sides will give an even more seamless appearance if you're into that kind of thing :)

You could add a bead of silicone around the wall edges to hide the little gaps too, then it would look even more built in. Awesome job!
