well the 1080 ti was the high end card of yesterday while the 3060 is the budget card of today so this just shows how far technology has come since we can get around the same performance at a lower price and more efficiency

Buying a 1080ti now used or new is such a dumb idea because of fps per value or electricity usage and offers less features but those who bought it in 2017 has made such a great investment because they can play every modern game and even upcoming games at high graphics without even changing GPU or the system.

in 2030 we will be comparing the RTX 4090 to the whateverTX 7050Ti and it would be interesting to see how the high ends of yesteryear become the budget cards of today

in the replies, what do yall think the first letter will be by then? GTX was Giga Texel shader eXtreme, and RTX was for Ray tracing Texel eXtreme.

The 1080 ti doesn't support mesh shaders so in modern games like alan wake 2 it'll perform like a 1650

Bro, due to the increasing gigabytes and developing graphics of the games, there will be different results. You should do the real test in the same time period to get better results.

honestly 1080ti is the goat but kinda overrated now cause of the newer used cards(that can compare and have the same or more performance than the 1080ti)

lets look back to 2017 the gtx 1080 ti had a whopping MSRP of 699$ and 7 years later still rocks however is sold for cheaper than a 3060 due to it being old, now mind that the 3060's price is dropping now and will be a quite competitive card, another factor i should mention that the last 2 digits of the gpu determine heavily how good it is, say the 1060, 2060, 3060 and the 4060 are the budget gpus, so the 1080, 2080, 3080 and the 4080 are more expensive cards for people with higher budget, therefore it was made better than a 1060 and so goes on... (the 1080 ti falls short to a 4060 though now) however the fact that a 2021 BUDGET gpu that released with an msrp of 330$ goes almost head to head with a gtx 1080 ti that had an MSRP of 699$ just means how far has budget gpus gotten to, nowadays i wouldnt get a 3060 but a 4060 for budget 1080 to 1440p gaming since its very power efficient, has dlss 3.0, frame generation and great rtx capabilities.

I like how people are saying rtx 3060 is better when for way cheaper (used) you can better performance. Idc about 5 cents more a month and 1gb of vram
