Shelfside reviews Coup, a game in which everyone is secretly a duke. Coup is a bluffing tabletop board game designed by Rikki Tahta and published by Indie Boards and Cards. Set in the same world as The Resistance and Grifters, players take on the roles of powerful political families, attempting to secure power by offing their competition.

I LOVE THIS GAME! I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE OF YOU!

One nitpick I have with the game is that sometimes, the bank runs out of money before anyone is forced to coup. This is especially problematic with the Reformation expansion due to high player counts, though I’ve heard it can happen with a 6-player game as well.

I bought Coup from a "discount website" and everything was in Chinese. I kept it as a reminder to shop local or with well known sites.

I own the game and think it's great but I want to add that there certainly is a con with this game in my view, much in line with similar cons you noted in some of your reviews for other games.
While the game can be a lot of fun, it's a game that needs most of the players to be somewhat active and engage with the bluffing nature of it. If your group ends up with more passive players, who won't lie and won't normally call others out on it, the game quickly becomes rather stale even if just 2 or so of the players are this way. I've had rounds of this where some players got kicked out early the first time and afterward would only ever use the abilities of cards they actually had or take the basic uncounterable action of taking 1 coin.
I'd also say if you lose a card early it really limits your options in terms of bluffing and calling others out, forcing some players into the overly passive playstyle.
Not necessarily something to knock down the score but certainly something to keep in mind when picking this game up for one's group.
